Setting Your Wedding Floral Budget
Share
Wedding planning can be overwhelming, and choosing the right florist is no exception. It’s essential to find someone who truly understands and brings your vision to life. For most brides, this is the first time they’ve thrown a large-scale party, so it may be daunting when thinking of where to start planning. My goal is to make your floral planning process as easy and stress-free as possible. We work with all budgets, but being realistic about your expectations is crucial. If you clearly communicate your budget, we’ll provide options that perfectly align with it, ensuring your wedding florals are everything you’ve dreamed of.
Below are a couple of things to consider when addressing your flower budget for your wedding.
Budget According to Percentage
It’s very likely that this is the first time that you’ve ever purchased flowers from a florist, so when planning your floral budget, it’s important to consider how important flowers are to you in relation to your wedding day. Do you consider flowers to be a beautiful addition or a main focus of your wedding? Costs can vary when it comes to flowers, but a good rule of thumb is to allocate about 15% of your overall wedding budget to florals, which typically covers personal flowers, a small ceremony feature, and simple reception arrangements. If florals are a focal point for your day, such as free standing arches or full centerpieces, aim for 20%-25%. Percentages are easier to manage since they adjust with your total budget and guest count.
Florals in Relation to Photography
Rather than spreading your budget thin on countless little details, focus on one or two impactful areas that will truly create a "wow" factor. It’s helpful to think of your wedding florals from a photography standpoint, meaning what moments are going to be heavily photographed (i.e. walking down the ceremony aisle, exchanging wedding vows, first kiss, etc.) Many key wedding moments are captured at the ceremony, so when looking at your wedding budget you may want to dedicate a large portion of your floral budget on feature pieces like a ceremony arch rather than boutonnieres and corsages for all your relatives. A free-standing ceremony arch maximizes your budget for the greatest impact as it will appear in the background of many photos and makes for a great backdrop when taking photos with family members/guests.
